A letter to you
I’ve raised three children who attended Hayward schools.
While my kids had many wonderful experiences in education, I know our system can improve and better prepare our students for college or life as a working adult. In my current job as a Parent Educator, I have talked to hundreds of local parents who feel the same way.
I’ve worked with students and parents on community programs designed to improve our schools. I’ve met with hundreds of local parents, teaching them how to navigate the educational system and advocate for their children. And I've also worked with Educators who are looking for resources and programs to help students prepare for college. I also designed and implemented a pipeline to college initiative that offers students admission to Cal State East Bay.
I decided to run for office because I wanted to give those parents and students I talk to every day a stronger voice in our education system.
Every student is entitled to a high quality education. Every student should have the capacity to enter college without having to take remedial classes because they were not prepared in high school. And every student should have supportive teachers who are prepared to provide quality instruction.
As a Trustee, I focus on putting students first in every decision. I believe our schools should focus on quality instruction by giving individual students the time and attention they need to succeed. Putting students first starts with strategically assessing the needs of the student and providing the academic resources they need to be successful. It also means standing behind our teachers and ensuring they have the support and professional development they need to excel at teaching. Finally, as a longtime Parent Educator, I know we must equip parents with the knowledge they need to support their child's education.
That’s why I’m running for Alameda County Board of Education, to continue my work to be a change agent in ensuring that all our students receive a high quality education. I hope to earn your vote in the March 5, 2024 election.
Sincerely,
Janevette Cole
